Life Coaching
“Our chief want in life is somebody who will make us do what we can.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson
What is Life Coaching?
Life Coaching is a process by which people are able to see the best pieces of themselves and use them properly in order to attain a goal. Life Coaches believe, as Acupuncturists, that you are already complete as a person. You do not need to be “fixed”. You are resourceful, strong and creative. You have all the tools you need to accomplish any goal that you may wish. Life Coaching is a tool you choose in your life in order to:
- Reassess and Clarify Life Goals
- Form an Action Plan to Achieve Life Goals
- Discover Key Beliefs that May Be Holding You Back
- Create New Beliefs that Support Your Vision of Your Ideal Future
During the process of Life Coaching, the coachee learns to accept themselves as they are now while at the same time accepting that changes can be made in order to improve the overall quality of life. Life Coaching is simply a tool that will help you to be more clear about what you want in life, how you will be able to get it and how to prepare for roadblocks that may come up along the way.
What do I, as the coachee, have to do?
The coachee is responsible for the decision to make changes, coming up with ideas about how to make those changes and then implementing the plan. During this entire process, the coach is alongside the coachee offering assistance when the coachee feels stuck, asking the proper questions in order to create awareness which, in turn, allows to coachee to be more resourceful and creative while coming up with solutions and guiding the coachee through various exercises that maximize the use of the coachees resources in any and all given situations.
What would I see a Life Coach for?
Like we said before, Life Coaches are used as a tool in your journey toward your perfect life. People most often seek out life coaches during times of transition or after a realization that their life as it is today is not satisfactory. Some of the areas where you could benefit from life coaching are:
- Changing Jobs
- Choosing Careers
- Moving In With a Partner
- Marriage or Commitment Ceremonies
- Finding a New Relationship
- Decision to have a child
- Unsure of What to do with Your Life
In each of the above examples, there is a common structure as to what needs to be done. The first step is to decide what you want and need. The second step is to recognize the values and key beliefs that support (or do not support) what you want and need. The third step usually involves a slight revision of what you want and need, making it more true to your life’s path. The fourth step is creating an action plan to get what you want and need. The fifth step is leading a happy and fulfilling life. And, YES, it is that easy.
